Atlanta Master Suite Addition

About This Project

What do you do when you want to enlarge a master suite without extending the footprint of the house? In this case, the solution was to build a second story over the garage and part of the family room in this home in Atlanta. A gracious master suite was created that included the bedroom, bath, large walk-in closet, office/sitting area and exercise room. The new master suite was designed for spaciousness and elegance. We were able to create areas for a small office and exercise room that did not exist before. The open floor plan leads to the focal point of the bathtub at the far end. The large shower features a Hansgrohe rainshower as well as showerhead and hand-held shower. Calacatta marble, used for the floor, shower, tub deck and vanities, sets the elegant tone for the bath. The heated marble floor includes a mosaic border. White Schrock cabinetry for the vanity, dressing table and storage was chosen for a clean, uncomplicated look. A large walk-in closet with natural light from two windows, gave the couple the storage space they lacked.

One challenge of the project was matching the brick exterior on the new addition. To solve this, we demolished the old left upper façade of the house and the arches over the front porch (replacing them with new wood columns) and carefully preserved as many of the original bricks as possible to reuse for the new addition. Some additional brick was necessary and was matched as closely as possible.

The clients are extremely pleased with the results of the project. Not only did they gain the space they desired, but the exterior of their home was improved as well.
