About This Project

This stunning kitchen in Midtown Atlanta showcases the best of contemporary kitchen design. Both functional and aesthetically pleasing, it works perfectly for entertaining and gourmet cooking with state-of-the-art appliances. The homeowners purchased an old home on the site and planned to remodel it to suit their needs, but it became apparent that in order to achieve their vision, they would have to tear it down and build from scratch. They envisioned an Italian villa incorporating classic elements interpreted for today.

The kitchen, open to the family room and adjacent to the dining room, is perfectly situated for entertaining. Two symmetrical islands were designed as dual work stations that double as seating and prep/clean-up areas—each with its own sink and dishwasher to make clean-up after an event practically effortless. A 48” Wolf range top is the focal point centered on the wall with a convenient pot filler faucet and separate freezer and refrigerator towers nearby. Note how the dual Miele ovens are treated—placed side-by-side with matching warming drawers beneath them, encased in dark oak frames and cantilevered beyond the surrounding cabinets. The feature is repeated with the Miele coffee system and speed oven.

One of the most fascinating things about the kitchen is the interplay of lights and darks and surface textures—shiny and matte, smooth and tactile. Leicht cabinetry from Germany was chosen for its clean lines and interesting textures. The cabinetry features four colors—a warm, light cherry, a light high-gloss lacquer, oak in a dark anthracite finish for the oven surrounds, and stainless steel drawers under the range top. The dark wood of the floors, door and window trim is juxtaposed with the light cabinetry and wall color. The cabinetry and the zebrawood island bar tops plays against with the shiny stainless steel of the island tops, range top drawers and appliances with accents of the chairs, bar legs and faucets.

Contemporary, but with warmth, this beautiful kitchen achieves the serene ambiance and classic appeal that the homeowners envisioned
